I've never written an actual post on here before, because usually the comments section is enough. But after reading this post, I found myself in a sort of rage paralysis. Commenting wasn't enough. I wanted to call Stu, ask him how could possibly say these things, demand answers, but that obviously wouldn't be possible.
So, I thought, well, I should just type out a post to express how fundamentally wrong, horrible, and really absurd Stu Burguiere is when he mocks the notion that lying to someone in order to get sex is rape, or that threatening someone to get sex is rape. (If you have the stomach for it—-and trust me, YOU DON'T—-you can watch the video, where he not only talks about this, he actually mocks it with a sort of sketch, complete with a guy in drag because, why? I guess, no woman would ever participate in a sketch like this? Was Ann Coulter busy, or was this even beneath her?)
So, if Stu had his way, lying to someone so you can have sex with them isn't rape. Threatening someone to have sex with them isn't rape. Also, he indicates the whole intoxication thing isn't a factor, either. Presumably, Stu believes rape is strictly a physically violent act.
Using Stu-Logic, then here are some other criminal acts that would change. I'll explain these with regards to things you could then do to Stu, which he ought to be fine with:
- Convince Stu to buy something that you don't actually have. You take his money, he gets nothing. This is no longer theft because he willingly gave you his money. All you did was lie. Lying to get sex isn't rape in the Wonderful World of Stu, so lying to get money isn't theft!
- Tell Stu you're going to spread rumors about how he molests children unless he gives you lots of money. This isn't extortion. All you're doing is threatening to tell everyone something that isn't true, that could damage his reputation. Doing that for sex isn't rape in the Wonderful World of Stu, so doing that for money is A-OK, too!
- Feed Stu an entire box of wine (or whatever he likes), give him some drugs, and then just take his car. Hey, what the hell, not only is this not theft, but you probably even paid for that whole box of wine yourself! Doing this for sex isn't rape in the Wonderful World of Stu, so this is not a problem.
- Corner Stu somewhere you're both alone. Now get right up in his face and say to him "GIVE ME YOUR WALLET! GIVE ME YOUR WALLET!" over and over and over again until he finally does. After all, according to Stu, there's nothing wrong with being persistent. If he gives you his wallet because he feels as if he's in danger, it's only because he's cowardly. All you did was ask for his wallet relentlessly until he did so.
- I'd also like to think that Stu and his cohorts like Glenn Beck would fine with government agents coming to their houses and taking their guns with such non-violent means such as threats and lies. Also, it would Stu and Glenn's own fault if they gave too much money to the IRS because the IRS badgered them with threats and lies and demands.
The Wonderful World of Stu: It makes you wonder, that's for sure!
I'll close this hastily written post with this: Stu's rationale is obviously completely fucked in terms of what is and what isn't rape. But aside from that, what is the upside? And in this, I'm not being snarky or sarcastic or satirical: I wonder, what is the purpose of trying to dispel these things as rape, to defend people who use these tactics to get sex? Here, I am speaking as a man: I don't get it. These things are repulsive. Lying and threatening people for sex? What man would ever stick up for these things?
